The Shanwei Jieshi Offshore Wind Project is planned in the South China Sea, off the coast of Guangdong, China. With a total offshore wind power capacity of 3,000 MW, it will be one of the largest offshore wind projects in the region. China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power New Energy (Lufeng) developed the offshore wind farm. It is currently in the permitting stage and is expected to be completed and commissioned by 2026. 

 

Covering an expansive area of 480 square kilometers, the wind farm will feature 429 offshore turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 7 MW. These turbines will be interconnected by 35kV inter-array cables, ensuring efficient power transmission.

 

The GN Shanwei Jieshi Offshore Wind Project is projected to generate approximately 13,770,397 MWh of electricity annually, contributing to China's renewable energy goals. The development falls under the Guangdong Offshore Wind Development Plan (2017-2030) and reflects the province's ambitious drive to harness offshore wind resources. With an estimated project cost of USD 10.59 billion, the wind farm will include six offshore platforms and twelve export cables (AC), showcasing advanced engineering and substantial investment in renewable energy infrastructure. 

 

Hainan CZ7 Demonstration Offshore Wind Farm

The Hainan CZ7 Demonstration project is an initiative by CNOOC Ltd to construct an offshore wind farm in the South China Sea. Located west of Dongfang City in Hainan Province, the CZ7 project will have a total capacity of 1.5 GW and will be developed in two phases. The first phase, CZ7-1, will feature 71 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8.5 MW, spread across a 60-square-kilometer area at water depths between 11 and 44 meters. This phase alone will contribute 603.5 megawatts of power, situated approximately 29 kilometers offshore.

The second phase, CZ7-2, will expand the capacity further by installing 75 turbines, each with a capacity of 12 MW, over a 126-square-kilometer area located 38 kilometers from shore. This phase will add 900 MW to the project. Both phases will include high voltage direct current (HVDC) substations, facilitating efficient power transmission. Upon completion, the Hainan CZ7 project will generate approximately 4.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. 

 

Hainan CZ9 Demonstration Offshore Wind Farm

The Hainan CZ9 Demonstration Offshore Wind Farm project is being constructed in Dongfang City, Hainan, China. The project was developed by Mingyang Smart Energy Group Co. Ltd and operated by Hainan Mingyang Smart Offshore Windpower Development Co. Ltd. This 1,500 MW offshore wind project was Hainan's first three-dimensional marine energy development demonstration. 

 

Scheduled for commissioning in 2026, the Hainan CZ9 project will integrate multiple renewable energy technologies, including offshore wind power, marine ranching, and seawater hydrogen production, positioning itself as a leading benchmark for affordable, subsidy-free offshore wind power in China.

 

The Hainan CZ9 project is expected to generate approximately 4.95 billion kWh of electricity annually to supply power to 2.06 million households. This substantial output will contribute to Hainan's green energy portfolio, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 3.834 million tons annually.

 

Guangdong Jieyang Qianzhan 1 Offshore wind farm 

The Guangdong Jieyang Qianzhan 1 Offshore Wind Farm is a significant renewable energy project in Qianzhan, Huilai, Jieyang, Guangdong, China. Developed and wholly owned by the State Power Investment Corporation Guangdong Electric Power Co. Ltd, this wind farm has a planned capacity of 1,200 MW. The project will feature 172 turbines, each with a nameplate capacity of 7 MW, interconnected by 35kV inter-array cables to ensure efficient power transmission.

 

Currently in the pre-construction stage, the construction of the Jieyang Qianzhan 1 Offshore Wind Farm is anticipated to begin in 2024, with commercial operations set to 2028. Once operational, this wind farm will significantly contribute to Guangdong's renewable energy capacity, supporting the province's transition to sustainable energy sources. This project's development underscores State Power Investment's commitment to advance China's renewable energy infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions through large-scale offshore wind initiatives.

Hainan CZ2 Demonstration Offshore wind farm

The Hainan CZ2 Demonstration Offshore Wind Farm, currently under construction in Danzhou, Hainan, China, is led by a consortium of Shenergy Co. Ltd (85%), Shanghai Xishuang Technology Co. Ltd (10%), and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co. Ltd (5%). The project is expected to deliver a total installed capacity of 1,200 MW. 

 

Spanning an area of approximately 191 square kilometers in the northern waters of Danzhou City, the wind farm will feature two 220 kV offshore substations and an onshore centralized control center in Eman Town, Danzhou City. With a total investment of 15 billion yuan, the project will establish a new production line for 8 to 15 MW offshore wind turbines, targeting an annual production capacity of 150-200 sets of wind power equipment.

 

The Hainan CZ2 project is expected to generate 3.83 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This output will enable substantial environmental benefits, including saving 1.146 million tons of standard coal and reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by 24,200 tons, nitrogen oxides by 13,800 tons, carbon dioxide by 2.991 million tons, and ash by 387,000 tons annually. 

 

The project aligns with Hainan Province's "14th Five-Year Plan" for offshore wind power development. It includes the Hainan Yangpu Shenneng Electric Wind Power New Energy Equipment Industrial Park. It will introduce advanced manufacturing industries for offshore wind turbines and components such as carbon fiber ultra-long blades and large megawatt unit gearboxes.
