Brookfield AI Data Centre

data centers in europe

The Brookfield AI Data Center will be one of the biggest AI infrastructure investments in Europe, costing up to USD 10 billion (SEK 95 billion). The design for this data center includes 750 MW of IT load and a footprint of 350,000 square meters. It will take 10 to 15 years to finish this project, and it will provide more than 1,000 permanent jobs. It will also support 2,000 jobs during construction.

The hyperscale data center project was launched on June 20, 2025. Its goals are to increase energy generation, chip storage, and a strong data transfer infrastructure. It is planned in Stockholm and other key Swedish academic cities to improve AI computing power for both public and commercial sector organizations.

Brookfield continues to enhance sustainability and connectivity through data center services across the main markets of Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin, known as the FLAP-D market. Recently, the company announced that total spending on AI-related infrastructure will exceed USD 7 trillion in the next 10 years.

Start Campus Data Hub

data centers in europe

The SIN01 project is the first building of Start Campus’s SINES Data Campus, a gigascale AI, cloud, and high-performance computing (HPC) data centre located in Portugal.

Officially opened in April 2025, SIN01 significantly expands Portugal’s data centre capacity, nearly doubling the country’s total existing infrastructure, and is part of a larger plan to develop six data centre buildings totaling 1.2 GW capacity.

The project is planned with an investment cost of EUR 8.5 billion and will function on 100% renewable energy from Portugal’s green electrical grid. It will include seawater cooling technology to achieve a highly efficient Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.1 without using water. The project aims for the efficiency of AI, cloud, and HPC workloads in Europe.

Apto Lacchiarella Data-Center Campus

data centers in europe

Apto announced the Apto Lacchiarella Data-Center Campus, which will cost EUR 3 billion (USD 3.4 billion) and will be one of the largest data center campuses near Milan, Italy.

The site will cover 228,000 square meters and have up to five separate data centers that can handle heavy workloads, such as AI and cloud apps. The project is designed to have a capacity of 300 MW.

The project will use building materials that are low in carbon and aim for LEED Gold certification. It will also have solar panels on the roof that can produce up to 2,725 kWp. The location will be able to get power from renewable sources and international undersea cable systems like BlueMed and 2Africa. In addition to the technological impact, the project aims to help boost STEM education and attract further investment to the region.

The Zaragoza Data Center Campus from Microsoft

Microsoft's Zaragoza Data-Center Campus in Aragón, Spain, is a big expansion that cost about EUR 2.9 billion and is located on a 59-hectare location next to the Puerto Venecia retail center. The first phase of construction will cost EUR 582 million and will take three years to finish. It will start in 2026.

This hyperscale campus is meant to help Aragón reach its goal of becoming a European leader in cloud and AI computing, which will help digital transformation in all areas. The project is part of Microsoft's plan to invest EUR 10 billion in Aragón over the next ten years.

Apart from this project, Microsoft also announced several other data center projects in Europe, including an expansion project in Finland, a joint venture (Bleu) in France, and a cloud platform in Germany. This shows Microsoft's commitment to AI Infrastructure.

Campus Data Navarra

The Campus Data Navarra project is being planned by Grupo VDR is building in Gazólaz, which is close to Pamplona, Spain. This project will cover 200,000 square meters and have a power output of 300 MW. There will be four structures, and construction will take place in stages from 2027 to 2029.

The first phase will include a 50 MW facility, followed by three or more buildings, totalling the project capacity to 300 MW. The project site is close to major highways (A-12 and A-15) and has access to a 220kV substation in Orkoien.

It is also close to undersea cable corridors to key Spanish towns like Bilbao, Zaragoza, and Barcelona, which makes it more appealing to the AI, cloud computing, and telecommunications sectors.

Azora/Tillion Data Center

* Announcement of Tillion data center by Azora

The Azora/Tillion data center megaproject in Villamayor de Gállego, Zaragoza, Spain, is an initial EUR 1.1 billion investment planned by Azora, with capacity to expand to 300 MW and total investment up to EUR 2 billion. This project is also known as the ‘Tillion Aragón’ campus. This hyperscale project is designed to emerge as a premier European technology hub.

The project’s initial 150 MW concession was approved by Red Eléctrica in 2024 and has already undergone technical validation by Azora. This project has also been approved by the Government of Aragon, granting the Declaration of General Interest (DIGA), with construction expected to begin in 2026.

Azora’s plans to position itself in the FLAP-D markets represent the region’s growing prominence as a key hub for digital infrastructure and data processing in Europe.

Hyperco Data Center

The Hyperco Data Center is a EUR 1 billion project developed by local developer HyperCo Oy which is a part of DAMAC Digital, the data center arm of the Dubai-based DAMAC Group. The project is being developed in Kouvola, Finland. This data center project is a part of TikTok's Project Clover, a EUR 12 billion initiative that will deliver industry-leading protection for data of 175 million European customers. Project Clover is TikTok's new data security initiative launched back in 2023.

The Hyperco Data Center will serve TikTok and will be TikTok's first data center in Kouvola, Finland. This data center will feature strong security measures like strict access limits, data de-identification, and independent monitoring by NCC Group, a leader in cybersecurity.
