Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish investment firm, has announced the successful acquisition of a 1.3 GW renewable power portfolio from Liberty Renewables, consisting of onshore wind projects in the US. This acquisition was made on behalf of its flagship fund, CI V.
With a target size of USD 13 billion, CI V is set to become the largest fund of its kind globally. Off to a strong start, CI V boasts a large and diversified portfolio of renewable energy infrastructure projects in the development stage, with potential equity commitments reaching USD 23 billion. The fund has already completed two investments, with an additional four expected during 2024, ensuring rapid capital deployment.
Liberty Renewables, established in 2019, owns a portfolio of greenfield renewable energy projects in New York, with approximately 1.3 GW of onshore wind in the pipeline. Liberty is strategically positioned to significantly contribute to New York’s clean energy objectives and support the state’s journey towards economy-wide decarbonization.
The inaugural project of Liberty, Hoffman Falls Wind, recently submitted its 94-C application to New York’s Office of Renewable Energy Siting and is slated to commence construction in 2026. Tim Evans, partner and head of North America at CIP, emphasized the importance of onshore wind in decarbonizing New York’s power grid and achieving its renewable targets. "We are excited to support New York’s clean energy transition through the acquisition of the Liberty portfolio," he stated.
