Trina Storage Ships 1.2GWh Elementa 2 BESS to Chile's Atacama Desert in Largest Overseas Project
Trina Storage Ships 1.2GWh Elementa 2 BESS to Chile's Atacama Desert in Largest Overseas Project Trina Storage has shipped the first 1.2GWh batch of its self-developed Elementa 2 battery energy storage system (BESS) to Chile, marking its largest overseas standalone storage project and signaling a new phase of GWh-scale global deployments.
The milestone underscores the company's ability to deliver scenario-specific solutions for complex operating conditions worldwide.
Project Location and Environmental Challenges
The project is located in Chile's northern Atacama Desert, described as one of the driest and most challenging environments on Earth. Trina Storage's Elementa 2 Desert Solution was specifically engineered for such extreme conditions, ensuring stable operation, reducing equipment failure rates and operations and maintenance costs, and enabling rapid response to grid fluctuations to balance supply and demand.
Chile's Energy Storage Market Growth
Chile's energy storage market is expanding quickly. The Ministry of Energy reports operational capacity reached 3,660 MWh by Q1 2025, cementing the country's leadership in Latin America.
This GWh-scale deployment sets a new benchmark for Trina Storage in the region and supports the clean energy transition in Chile and neighboring markets through dependable, high-performance storage solutions.
Company Leadership Perspective
"This successful deployment of a GWh-scale project showcases Trina Storage's full lifecycle solution capabilities," said Álvaro García-Maltrás, President of Trina Solar for Latin America and the Caribbean. "We combine world-class engineering with deep local market knowledge to guarantee successful deployment and long-term operational excellence."
