The Australian government announced extra grant money of AUD 150 million on Monday to assist in the development of "clean" hydrogen hubs in regional Australia.
Under the Clean Hydrogen Industrial Hubs program, the increased funds will support two more locations.
The government has increased the program's budget to AUD 464 million, which will be used to develop seven potential hubs: Bell Bay in Tasmania, Darwin in the Northern Territory, Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, Gladstone in Queensland, Latrobe Valley in Victoria, Hunter Valley in NSW, and Pilbara in Western Australia.
Grants of up to AUD 3 million for feasibility and design work, and up to AUD 70 million for project implementation will be available to project consortiums. According to the release, applications will open in the following weeks.
The hydrogen hubs are designed to bring together hydrogen producers, users, and exporters.
Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor said, "Hydrogen hubs are crucial to realizing the Morrison Government's vision of making Australia a major global player in hydrogen production and exports by 2030."
He continued "A thriving hydrogen sector will help Australia to achieve its emission-reduction goals while continuing to grow our economy and support existing industries."
