Tata Power Delhi Distribution Awards 250 MW Renewable Energy Auction to Four Companies
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited has successfully concluded its auction for the supply of 250 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable energy from projects integrated with energy storage systems. The projects will be developed on a build-own-operate basis, with the selected bidders signing long-term power purchase agreements for 25 years.
The auction attracted participation from leading renewable energy developers, resulting in competitive tariffs for the storage-backed renewable energy capacity. Four companies emerged as winners, securing different portions of the total 250 MW capacity at highly competitive rates.
Winning Bidders and Capacity Allocation
Tata Power Renewable Energy emerged as the largest winner in the auction, securing 80 MW capacity at a tariff of INR 4.77 per unit. The company will develop and operate the most significant single project under this tender. Juniper Green Energy secured the second-largest allocation, winning 70 MW capacity with a quoted tariff of INR 4.76 per unit.
This represents a significant portion of the total auctioned capacity for the renewable energy developer. Both Navayuga Engineering Company and ACME Solar Holdings secured equal allocations of 50 MW each. Both companies quoted the same competitive tariff of INR 4.76 per unit for their respective projects.
Auction Process and Timeline
The tender process commenced earlier this year when Tata Power-D issued a Request for Selection on April 29, 2025. The procurement was structured as a tariff-based competitive bidding process, designed to ensure a reliable renewable energy supply integrated with storage systems. The auction specifically targeted round-the-clock power requirements, emphasizing the need for firm and dispatchable renewable energy solutions.
This approach reflects the growing demand for a consistent renewable energy supply that can meet continuous power needs regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

Structure and Technical Requirements of the Project
The winning projects will be developed using energy storage systems integrated with renewable energy generation. This integration is designed to provide firm and dispatchable renewable energy, ensuring a consistent power supply even when renewable generation is not available. The build-own-operate model means the selected developers will be responsible for financing, constructing, and operating the projects throughout the 25-year contract period.
This structure transfers both the development risk and operational responsibility to the private developers while ensuring long-term energy supply for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited.
Market Significance and Competitive Landscape
The successful completion of this auction highlights the growing role of storage-backed renewable energy in strengthening India's power sector. The competitive tariffs achieved demonstrate the increasing maturity of renewable energy technologies combined with storage solutions. The auction reflects the growing competitiveness among developers in delivering firm and dispatchable clean energy solutions for urban demand.
The participation of multiple leading renewable energy companies in India indicates strong market interest in storage-integrated renewable projects. The tariff range of INR 4.76 to INR 4.77 per unit achieved in the auction demonstrates the cost-effectiveness of renewable energy solutions with storage integration. The minimal variation in winning tariffs across different bidders suggests a highly competitive bidding environment.
