Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, has announced its participation in New Zealand's largest solar farm, the Tauhei Solar Farm, located near Te Aroha on the North Island of New Zealand. The company will supply and commission its advanced inverter technology for the landmark project.

Project Details and Capacity

The 202 MWp (150 MW AC) Tauhei Solar Farm is a joint venture between Harmony Energy and Clarus. The project is scheduled to be operational by late 2026. Once completed, the solar farm will generate an estimated 280 GWh of clean electricity annually, which is enough to power more than 35,000 New Zealand homes. The project represents a significant contribution to New Zealand's decarbonization goals. The solar farm's location near Te Aroha positions it strategically on the North Island to serve the region's energy needs.

Sungrow's Technology Solutions

The Tauhei Solar Farm will be powered by twenty-seven units of Sungrow's SG6800HV-MV central inverters and one PPC1000 Power Plant Controller. These systems represent advanced inverter technology designed for utility-scale solar installations. The SG6800HV-MV central inverters deliver up to 99% efficiency, featuring effective cooling systems that enable full power operation in high temperatures.

The inverters include integrated current and voltage monitoring capabilities that allow for real-time online analysis and troubleshooting, ensuring streamlined and reliable operation throughout the solar farm's lifecycle.

Power Plant Control and Management

The PPC1000 Power Plant Controller combines the hardware and software functions of a power plant controller with those of a local SCADA system. This integration enables intelligent energy dispatch for utility-scale operations, providing comprehensive monitoring and control capabilities for the entire solar farm installation. The controller system is designed to optimize the performance of the solar farm while maintaining grid stability and compliance with utility requirements.

The combination of the central inverters and power plant controller creates a complete solution for managing the large-scale renewable energy installation.
