SKS Technologies Secures $210 Million Melbourne Data Center Contract After Operator Expands Facility to 126MW
SKS Technologies (an electrical and communications infrastructure company) has secured a USD 210 million contract to deliver electrical infrastructure for a major hyperscale data center in Melbourne's western region, Australia, after the unnamed facility operator made a strategic decision to significantly expand the project's capacity.
Contract Value Jumps by USD 80 Million
SKS announced the expansion of its project through an additional USD 80 million in work secured for the Melbourne data center facility. The latest expansion brings the total contract value with construction partner Hickory to USD 210 million, up from the initial USD 130 million letter of intent that was signed last November.
The project, designated MEL02A, has grown substantially in scope since it was first announced. The increase in contract value followed a decision by the data center operator to expand the facility's power capacity from 90 megawatts to 126 megawatts, a move that required a correspondingly broader scope of complex electrical infrastructure work.
Scope of Works
Under the terms of the executed contract, SKS Technologies will be responsible for the design and construction of a full suite of critical electrical systems across the Melbourne facility.
The work includes high and medium voltage infrastructure, the installation and commissioning of multiple power distribution units, and the implementation of extensive cable support systems and main feeds.
The scale of the project reflects the broader surge in data center construction activity across Australia, driven by the growing demands of global hyperscale operators who require increasingly large and technically complex facilities to support their operations.

Victorian Market Position
SKS Technologies chief executive Matthew Jinks said the contract solidifies the company's position in the Victorian market. Jinks noted that SKS has now serviced the majority of global hyperscale providers operating in the state, describing the company as a fixture in that market.
Expansion Into New South Wales
Alongside the Melbourne announcement, SKS Technologies signaled its intent to grow beyond Victoria and establish a presence in New South Wales. The company recently secured a USD 3 million infrastructure upgrade contract for a hyperscale operator located in Western Sydney, marking an early foothold in that market.
The move into New South Wales is underpinned by a recent acquisition the company made in the state. SKS Technologies has indicated the strategy is to replicate the success it has built in the Victorian hyperscale data center market across the border, using the NSW acquisition as a platform for that expansion.
The Western Sydney contract, while modest in size compared to the USD 210 million Melbourne engagement, represents a deliberate effort to establish relationships with hyperscale operators in Australia's largest city, where data center investment has also been growing strongly.
