Saipem has successfully completed its designated scope of work for the development of the Yellowtail field, operated by ExxonMobil Guyana Ltd., located in approximately 1,800 metres of water within the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The completion was announced on August 18, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the deepwater development project.

Project Scope and Contract Details

Saipem was awarded the contract in 2022 to undertake the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) of the Subsea Umbilical, Riser, and Flowline (SURF) system for the Yellowtail field. The comprehensive project involved multiple phases of offshore installation activities spanning from early 2024 through 2025.

The company's work encompassed the complete SURF system development, including the installation of rigid flowlines, steel lazy wave risers, flexible risers, and umbilicals, as well as the critical connection of the pre-laid rigid riser to the FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel).

Vessel Operations and Installation Campaign

The FDS2 J-lay vessel, identified as one of Saipem's flagship assets, executed the installation of the rigid flowline and steel lazy wave risers during an early 2024 campaign. The project concluded in 2025 with the Saipem Constellation vessel handling the installation of flexible risers, umbilicals, and completing the connection of the pre-laid rigid riser to the FPSO.

The Normand Samson, a Saipem-chartered MSV (Multi-Support Vessel), played a supporting role throughout the offshore campaign from mid-2024. This vessel was responsible for delivering subsea pre-commissioning activities, conducting surveys, performing light construction work, and installing flowline jumpers that were fabricated at Saipem's yard in Georgetown.

Project Performance and Timeline

All offshore and onshore activities were completed on schedule while adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality. Notably, Saipem's operational efficiency and expertise in managing the complex project alongside clients and stakeholders contributed to an advanced production start-up of the field by nearly four months ahead of the original timeline. The project's successful completion demonstrates Saipem's execution capabilities in large-scale deepwater developments, particularly in the challenging geological settings of the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.

Strategic Position and Previous Experience

This project further consolidates Saipem's strategic position in deepwater developments, building on experience gained from previous projects for ExxonMobil Guyana. The company has previously worked on the Liza Phase 1 and 2 projects, the Payara project, and the UARU project, with the UARU offshore phase having commenced in March 2025.

Saipem's involvement in multiple projects within the Stabroek Block has allowed the company to develop specialized expertise in the region's unique geological and operational challenges. The company has established local capabilities, including fabrication facilities at its Georgetown yard, which contributed to the efficient execution of the Yellowtail project.

The company remains committed to delivering innovative engineering and technological solutions in challenging geological settings such as the Stabroek Block. Saipem integrates its acquired expertise with a focus on sustainability and local development, continuing to collaborate closely with local communities and stakeholders to foster economic growth and develop specialized skills onsite.
