PowerX, Inc. has secured an order for 102 units of its grid-scale battery energy storage systems totaling 230.1 MWh in rated capacity, destined for a jointly funded battery farm project in Fukuoka Prefecture that is scheduled to begin commercial operation in January 2028.

Three Corporate Giants Back the Fukuoka Project

The Fukuoka Chikuzen Town Battery Farm is being developed through a joint investment by Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd., ITOCHU Corporation, and Tokyo Century Corporation.

The business entity established for the project is Fukuoka Chikuzen Town Battery Farm LLC, and the site is located in Chikuzen Town, Asukara District, Fukuoka Prefecture. PowerX, headquartered in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, received the order for the battery systems that will form the core of the facility.

The project has been selected to receive a subsidy from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry under the FY 2025 Subsidy Program for Supporting the Introduction of Energy Storage Systems to Promote the Adoption of Renewable Energy, adding a layer of government backing to the private investment.

Addressing Renewable Energy Curtailment in Kyushu

The battery farm is designed to respond directly to a growing challenge in the Kyushu region, where the rapid advancement of renewable energy adoption has led to output curtailment.

By connecting to the power grid and cycling through charge and discharge operations, the facility is intended to help stabilize the local power supply-demand balance and reduce the frequency with which renewable generation must be curtailed.

The 230.1 MWh of rated capacity across the 102 battery containers is equivalent, according to PowerX, to the daily electricity consumption of approximately 21,500 average Japanese households. The facility's power conversion system output is rated at 67 MW.

The Mega Power 2500 at the Center of the Deployment

All 102 units ordered are PowerX's Mega Power 2500, a grid-scale battery energy storage system built into a 10-foot ISO standard container. Each unit carries a nominal capacity of 2,507 kWh and a rated capacity of 2,256 kWh. The systems use lithium iron phosphate, commonly referred to as LFP, as the battery chemistry.

A notable aspect of the deployment is that every unit will be manufactured domestically at PowerX's production facility in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture. PowerX has highlighted this domestic production capability as part of its broader contribution to carbon neutrality goals in Japan.

A Co-Branded Package Ties PowerX and ITOCHU Together

The battery systems for the Fukuoka project are being supplied under the PowerX × Bluestorage co-branded package, a jointly offered product line developed by PowerX and ITOCHU Corporation. ITOCHU's dual role in the project is notable: the trading and investment company is simultaneously one of the three investors in the battery farm and a commercial partner of PowerX through the Bluestorage arrangement.

This co-branded offering packages the Mega Power 2500 hardware under a shared commercial framework, and the Fukuoka deployment represents a live example of that partnership delivering at grid scale.

Revenue and Financial Context

PowerX noted that the revenue associated with this project is included in the anticipated orders projected to generate revenue in FY 2027, as presented in the company's financial results briefing materials disclosed on May 14, 2026.

The company issued the press release once agreement on public disclosure had been reached with the customer, and noted that the timing of the announcement does not necessarily coincide with the necessity or timing of timely disclosure requirements.

PowerX trades on the Japanese stock market under securities code 485A and is led by Director, President, and CEO Masahiro Ito. The company's head office is located in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, where its battery manufacturing operations are also based.
