Oriana Power Signs ₹476 Crore Solar and Battery Storage Project Agreement in Rajasthan
Oriana Power has recently signed an agreement with a cement industry company to undertake a battery energy storage project in Rajasthan. The company announced in a regulatory filing that it will carry out EPC activities including design, engineering, supply, construction, installation, and commissioning of a 75 MW solar power plant coupled with a 111.57 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Rajasthan.
Project Details and Timeline
The total value of the project will be approximately ₹476.13 crore, including GST. According to the company's statement, this project marks a major step forward for the company in integrating solar power with advanced energy storage solutions, further strengthening their contribution to India's clean energy journey. The project is expected to be completed within eight months from the date of the order and receipt of the advance.
Strategic Vision and Grid Stabilization Goals
Parveen Kumar, Co-founder of Oriana Power, explained during the last investor call that "Oriana Power is going to build a 400 MW energy storage system with the Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu governments, utilizing abundant sources of storage. We can flatten the dynamic demand profile, stabilize the grid, and increase the utilization of India's fast-growing solar power capacity, ultimately moving our country toward energy self-reliance and complete energy security."
Expansion Plans and Future Capacity Targets
Parveen Kumar shared the company's plan to add 403 MW BESS storage capacity in the upcoming years. The company has been awarded 3-4 contracts of 100 MWh each by the Rajasthan Government, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
For the BESS portfolio, the company has made a commitment of 3.5 GWh additional capacity by FY 2030, though Kumar indicated that with current aggressive market requirements and opportunities, this target could be achieved earlier than FY 2030. Regarding the company's operational status and targets, Kumar stated that last year a 400-plus MW project has been delivered, and 550 MW of projects are under execution.
The company has an additional 700 MW hours under pipeline for this year. Oriana Power is targeting to meet the goal of 1 GW for solar capacity, and for battery energy storage, they have set a target of one GW hour plus.
