The construction wing of Larsen & Toubro has secured the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract to develop various systems related to renewable energy generation and utilities for the AMAALA project in the Red Sea region of Saudi Arabia.

L&T, one of the top 15 EPC companies in the world, did not disclose any financial details regarding the deal in its press release. However, L&T classifies a contract with a value between USD 600 million and USD 1 billion as a "major" contract.

The concession agreement for the fully integrated utility project has been signed between the developers of the AMAALA project and a consortium consisting of EDF, a French electricity utility, and Masdar. Larsen & Toubro has entered into an EPC agreement with the sponsors, EDF, and Masdar.
The project awarded to L&T will feature an optimized off-grid renewable energy system, including a 250 MW solar power plant and a 700 MWH battery energy storage system. Additionally, the power systems will involve biofuel-based internal combustion engines, three gas-insulated substations, high-voltage transmission lines, and medium-voltage distribution networks.
Furthermore, L&T will construct a 37 MLD (minimum liquid discharge) seawater reverse osmosis plant and a 6 MLD STP (sewage treatment plant). T. Madhava Das, Director of Larsen & Toubro, stated that securing this EPC contract represents L&T’s synergistic strength in offering diverse infrastructure solutions.
