About Kiryat Gat Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility

Intel's Kiryat Gat facility is a complex of semiconductor fabrication plants located in Kiryat Gat, Israel. It's one of Intel's most advanced and important manufacturing sites, producing microprocessors, chipsets, and other components for computers and other electronic devices.
Intel first established its presence in Kiryat Gat in 1996 with the opening of Fab 28a. This facility initially produced 200mm wafers, but was later upgraded to handle 300mm wafers, which are the industry standard today. In 2019, Intel announced plans to invest $10 billion in a new fab at Kiryat Gat, Fab 28. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction was delayed.
About Israel Semiconductor Market
Israel, despite its small size, boasts a remarkably impactful semiconductor market. It's known as the "Silicon Wadi" and holds a unique position in the global chip scene. Israel has a highly skilled workforce, with a large number of engineers and scientists specialized in semiconductors. Apart from Intel, this talent pool attracts major international players like Nvidia, and Apple to set up R&D centers, making Israel a crucial design hub.
While not a major chip manufacturer (lacking large foundries), Israel excels in chip design and engineering. Their semiconductor industry generated around USD 19.8 billion in revenue in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 41.6 billion by 2025, exhibiting robust growth.
