Generac Holdings Inc. (a total energy solutions company) has signed a global supply agreement with a leading hyperscale data center operator to supply backup power generators for the company's data center infrastructure, the Wisconsin-based manufacturer announced on June 2, 2026.

A Rigorous Path to Qualification

The agreement did not come quickly or easily. According to Generac, the global supply contract was awarded following a rigorous qualification process that included multiple factory visits, performance and quality system reviews, and audits across Generac's broader vendor base.

The depth of that evaluation process signals the scale of trust hyperscale data center operators place in backup power suppliers, given the consequences of infrastructure failure.

Aaron Jagdfeld, Chairman, President, and CEO of Generac, framed the deal in terms of the company's broader ambitions in the data center market. "This agreement positions Generac at the heart of supporting essential services and the digital economy," Jagdfeld said.

"The successful navigation of this approval process solidifies our position as a top-tier supplier of large megawatt backup power generators and reflects the kind of relationship we expect will grow as the digital economy continues to scale."

Erik Wilde, Executive Vice President and President of Domestic Commercial and Industrial at Generac, emphasized the company's long track record in mission-critical environments.

"Generac has been supporting mission-critical infrastructure for decades," Wilde said. "Securing this agreement reflects our culture, an engineering-first organization focused on backup power, with the service capabilities required to support critical infrastructure at scale."

Why Backup Power Has Become a Data Center Priority

Data centers form the backbone of systems that billions of people depend on daily, including banking infrastructure, healthcare delivery networks, transportation logistics platforms, and emergency response systems.

Generac noted that reliable backup power serves as the resilience layer that keeps these essential services operational during grid disruptions, weather events, and high-demand periods.

The hyperscale segment of the data center industry represents some of the largest and most demanding power consumers in the world. These facilities operate at enormous scale and require uninterrupted power continuity, making backup generation systems not a peripheral concern but a core infrastructure requirement. The identity of the hyperscale operator involved in this agreement was not disclosed by Generac.

Strategic Investments Backing the Push

The announcement comes as Generac has made a series of targeted investments designed to expand its Commercial and Industrial business and build out its global capabilities for precisely these types of large-scale deployments.

Among the recent moves, Generac entered into a collaboration with EPC Power to deploy fully integrated energy solutions for data center applications worldwide.

The company also completed the acquisition of Enercon, a transaction that added fifty years of expertise in generator enclosures and switchgear for mission-critical applications to Generac's portfolio. On the manufacturing side, Generac has been expanding capacity at facilities in Beaver Dam, Oshkosh, and Sussex, Wisconsin.

The company has also been scaling operations across key international regions, including Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. Generac described these moves as reinforcing its ability to support data center growth with end-to-end solutions on a global scale.

Generac also pointed to its track record of delivering energy solutions for major colocation data center projects worldwide, noting that its work supports some of the industry's leading operators in building out resilient, mission-critical infrastructure for rapidly growing digital economies.

Positioning Within a Growing Market

The deal reflects a broader dynamic playing out across the power generation industry, as data center construction continues to accelerate in response to the expansion of artificial intelligence workloads, cloud computing, and digital services infrastructure.

Hyperscale operators have increasingly sought to lock in reliable supply chains for critical equipment, including backup generation, as demand outpaces available capacity in many markets.

For Generac, which has historically been associated with residential standby generators and home energy products, the hyperscale supply agreement represents a significant moment in the company's effort to establish itself as a dominant player in the large megawatt Commercial and Industrial segment.

The company has characterized its engineering-first culture and service infrastructure as key differentiators in winning and maintaining relationships with operators who cannot afford downtime.

Generac, founded in 1959 and headquartered in Waukesha, Wisconsin, describes itself as a total energy solutions company. Its product portfolio spans power generation equipment, energy storage systems, energy management devices and solutions, and other power products serving residential, commercial, data center, telecom, rental, and industrial markets. The company trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GNRC.
