European Energy Takes Over Operations of 207 MW Gedmose Solar Park from Heartland
European Energy will assume operational responsibility for Heartland A/S's Gedmose solar park near Holstebro starting January 1, 2026, marking the company's first operations agreement for a solar facility it neither developed nor owns. The 207 MW solar park, which was the largest in Northern Europe when connected to the grid in 2021, produces electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of over 50,000 households.
Operations Agreement Details
The agreement represents a strategic expansion for European Energy, which currently manages operations and asset management for 4 GW of renewable energy capacity. This marks the first time the Copenhagen-based company has taken on operations of a third-party-owned solar installation that it did not develop internally.
Jacob Saust Johansen, EVP for Asset Management & Operations at European Energy, stated that the agreement represents an important step in the company's strategic shift toward offering services to third-party owners beyond their own developed parks. The company has developed new technological solutions in recent years that enable lower-cost optimization of electricity production, with asset management poised to become a significant revenue driver.
Solar Park Specifications and Power Purchase Agreement
The Gedmose solar park is located just outside Holstebro and generates electricity through a power purchase agreement with multiple companies, including BESTSELLER, Normal, Nemlig.com, and Faerch. The facility's 207 MW capacity generates sufficient electricity to meet the annual consumption requirements of more than 50,000 households.
Heartland A/S established the solar park as part of their long-term investment strategy in renewable energy and the green transition. Kasper Reggelsen, Head of Communications at HEARTLAND, emphasized that the solar park was created with the ambition to invest responsibly with a long-term perspective in the green transition, noting the importance of robust energy infrastructure that benefits everyone.
