Deep Wind Offshore and EDF Power Solutions have been awarded a lease for the Utsira Nord offshore wind project, marking a significant milestone for Norway's first large-scale floating wind development. The project will feature an installed capacity of 500 MW and is located in Southwestern Norway, approximately 30 kilometers from the coastal city of Haugesund.

Project Location and Capacity

The Utsira Nord project will be situated near Utsira Island in Southwestern Norway, 30 kilometers from Haugesund, where Deep Wind Offshore maintains its headquarters. With its 500 MW installed capacity, the facility will generate sufficient renewable electricity to cover the energy needs of nearly 150,000 Norwegian households.

The lease award enables the partnership to initiate the environmental permitting process and conduct site condition studies before applying to the construction support scheme planned by the Norwegian authorities. This represents a crucial step forward in the development timeline for Norway's first large-scale floating offshore wind project.

Partnership and Local Engagement

The award highlights the strength of the collaboration between EDF Power Solutions and Deep Wind Offshore, combining extensive offshore wind expertise with comprehensive knowledge of regional needs and characteristics. Both companies have demonstrated their commitment to leveraging the area's rich industrial heritage through various local engagement initiatives.

The partnership has undertaken numerous local actions, including roadshows specifically for local suppliers, educational initiatives aimed at community development, public meetings on Utsira Island, and academic cooperation agreements with universities and research institutions. These efforts reflect the companies' dedication to integrating local stakeholders into the project development process.
