Morocco Plans 500 MW Green Data Center in Dakhla to Serve AI and HPC Workloads
Morocco has unveiled plans for a 500 MW mega AI data center called Igoudar Dakhla, positioning the southern city of Dakhla as a major hub for digital transformation. The facility will serve domestic and international clients with hosting, storage, and data-processing services, and will be powered fully by green energy sources.
Green Energy Infrastructure and Sustainability Focus
The data center will run entirely on energy from a dedicated solar and wind farm, developed under the Digital for Sustainable Development program. The facility will incorporate advanced cloud infrastructure and natural cooling systems to reduce excessive energy use and position Morocco as a competitive regional hub for green data services.
The data center aims to enable energy transition and reduce the digital sector's carbon footprint while catering to high performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.

Strategic Location and Regional Development
The Dakhla data center project is part of the wider development strategy for the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, located roughly 1600 kilometers south of Morocco's main digital infrastructure hub. While Casablanca in the northern part of the African nation still remains Morocco's largest digital infrastructure market, this southern facility aims to boost digital connectivity.
The project supports Morocco's preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and contributes to the country's infrastructure development plans.
Market Growth Projections
Morocco's data center market is expected to attract investments of USD 51.0 million by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 11.18 percent during the forecast period. The Moroccan data center market is growing rapidly, with projected revenues of USD 766.81 million in 2025, rising to more than USD 1 billion by 2030.
The Igoudar Dakhla facility represents a significant addition to Morocco's expanding digital infrastructure, combining substantial power capacity with renewable energy sources to meet the growing demand for AI and high-performance computing services in the region.
