Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an ultra-mega contract from Adani Power Ltd to establish eight state-of-the-art thermal power units, each with a capacity of 800 MW, totaling 6,400 MW of new generation capacity. The contract was announced on August 11, 2025, and will be executed by L&T Energy, CarbonLite Solutions (LTECLS), the company's specialized business vertical for advanced power and low-carbon technologies.

Project Scope and Technical Details

The comprehensive scope of work encompasses the complete design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, and commissioning of Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) packages, along with auxiliaries and associated mechanical, electrical and control & instrumentation (C&I) systems. Each of the eight thermal power units will have an individual capacity of 800 MW, representing a significant addition to India's power generation infrastructure.

The project falls under L&T's ultra-mega classification system, which categorizes projects with values exceeding ₹15,000 crores. According to L&T's project classification structure, contracts are categorized as follows: Significant (INR1,000 to 2,500 crores), Large (INR 2,500 to 5,000 crores), Major (₹5,000 to 10,000 crores), Mega (INR 10,000 to 15,000 crores), and Ultra-Mega (exceeding INR 15,000 crores).
