Equinix Launches AI-Ready Data Center in Jakarta to Support Indonesia’s Digital Growth

Updated on May 19, 2025, 04:00 AM IST

Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure, has officially opened its first International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Jakarta. Developed through a joint venture with PT Astra International Tbk, the new facility, known as JK1, aims to bolster Indonesia’s digital economy by enhancing network connectivity and supporting the deployment of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The JK1 data center is positioned to serve as a critical entry point for international technology firms and startups looking to establish or expand their presence in Indonesia. With the country’s digital economy forecast to reach USD 130 billion by 2025, the need for scalable and secure infrastructure has become increasingly urgent.

JK1 connects businesses to a dense ecosystem of over 50 global and local network service providers and internet exchanges. This interconnection capacity is designed to facilitate rapid deployment of digital services and improve resilience, performance, and innovation across sectors.

Equinix’s new facility will allow companies to access its global platform, enabling faster expansion and integration with international markets. The data center’s secure environment and cloud-ready architecture are expected to help enterprises in Indonesia scale their operations while maintaining compliance and performance standards.

“Indonesia’s growing economy and digital transformation create a prime environment for infrastructure investments,” said a spokesperson from Equinix. “JK1 is part of our commitment to supporting regional growth by offering reliable and interconnected digital solutions.”

Government Endorsement and Sustainability Focus

Meutya Hafid, Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, welcomed the launch of JK1, underscoring the government’s support for digital infrastructure development. She noted Indonesia’s strengths in resource availability, including access to competitive energy and water, as well as the country’s significant green energy potential.

“The establishment of this facility reflects our vision of becoming a regional digital powerhouse,” said Hafid. “It also reinforces our commitment to sustainable development in the digital era.”

The opening of JK1 marks a milestone in Indonesia’s digital infrastructure evolution, providing a foundation for AI, cloud computing, and data-driven services to thrive. As businesses and governments prioritize digital transformation, facilities like JK1 are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s technological future.
